Press Release: Peace Officer Use of Force Recertification Course Launch

Edmonton, Alberta – July 29, 2025 – Tip of Spear Inc. alongside Control Concepts Canada, are excited to announce the accreditation and public launch of their new Alberta Peace Officer Recertification Program.

This new Recertification Program consists of a hybrid online and in-person blended model that is the first of its kind in Canada for Peace Officers. It also allows Peace Officers employed in Alberta, who have authority by their appointment to use force, to efficiently recertify in all their Use of Force tools at the same time.

This innovative program solves many major challenges and barriers Peace Officers in Alberta face when trying to recertify, including soaring tuition, piece-meal intermediate weapon recertification (inability to recertify in all intermediate weapons at the same time), and lengthy in-person courses which are difficult to schedule with limited staff coverage.

Now that this program is launched, agencies have an elevated level of learning and accountability regarding the ongoing development of their staff. Rather than pulling people operationally from their shifts and losing time for a field training officer course, they can expose their officers to learning in a creative, innovative, and cost-effective way.” – Sean Carter, founder of Control Concepts Canada

The program has been carefully developed over a number of years, and utilizes the most innovative, best practices from multiple subject matter experts with decades of experience in the field of use of force and law enforcement high-risk situations. This training prepares officers to bring a new lens of diversity and inclusion to the ever-changing environments they experience in their career, and has been designed to provide learners with the most up to date information and tactics to ensure safety during training and in the field.

I want this program to be a catalyst for growth- pushing people to evolve, expand their potential, and never settle for stagnation. It’s about creating momentum and showing them that leadership isn’t just about a title- it’s about stepping up, whether in their agency, or in their community. This program helps them to see that growth and leadership go hand-in-hand, and that striving for more isn’t just possible, it’s the path forward.” – Sean Carter

Tip of Spear, a long-established leader in security and use of force training, and Control Concepts Canada, a group of experts in law enforcement training – are the perfect partners, both hailing from Edmonton, Alberta. Tip of Spear with extensive experience in developing online courses, and Control Concepts Canada with decades of experience in the law enforcement field, developing curriculum and training.

Taking this Peace Officer training to the level where we are blending in-person and online, is giving officers opportunities for training that they normally wouldn’t get. There’s a very cool intersection between my relationship with Tip of Spear, and the evolution of my relationship with my business partners in developing this blended program. It’s exciting, it’s challenging, and I love the creative and innovative aspects of building new programs.” – Sean Carter

Peace Officers will be able to recertify in Pressure Point Control Tactics and if deemed by their appointment, all intermediate weapons (baton and Oleoresin Capsicum (OC)) at the same time as well. They will also refresh key theoretical competencies online regarding legislation, communication, officer safety tactics and more, while applying and practicing knowledge and skills in a variety of reality-based scenarios.

Peace Officers must undertake this mandatory recertification training at least every three years, although two years is the recommended timeframe in a rapidly evolving law enforcement environment.

Tip of Spear is now accepting registrations on their Peace Officer website https://www.tipofspearpeaceofficer.ca/recertification
